Global Crossing Powers New IP VPN for Waukesha Bearings

By Johanne Torres

Global Crossing just inked a new networking deal with Waukesha Bearings, a fluid film provider for turbo machinery suppliers. Under a new agreement, Global Crossing will provide Waukesha Bearings with a new fully-managed IP Virtual Private Network (VPN).

With Global Crossing's IP VPN in place, Waukesha Bearings should be able to ultimately move towards convergence of voice in the future by integrating IP and data traffic on its network.

"Global Crossing delivered a new IP VPN solution that links our primary offices and manufacturing facilities in North American and Europe directly to our network," commented Waukesha Bearings' CFO Jeff Adams in a statement. "The IP VPN offers added technical benefits over our previous solution, while cost-effectively connecting our more remote sites to our network, saving thousands in local loop costs. In addition, Global Crossing met the requirements of our corporate IT strategy and provided an easy-to-follow roadmap to fully converge all our services onto IP in the near future."

Global Crossing's IP VPN service is used by customers to keep its remote employees connected to the information they need to conduct business.

"Waukesha Bearings opted for a fully managed IP VPN so it could free IT resources and personnel for other important company initiatives, while Global Crossing manages their network," said Dan Wagner, Global Crossing's executive vice president for enterprise services. "The managed IP VPN not only provides substantial savings in tangible expenses, but in opportunity costs as well."

Today's news follows Global Crossing's recently announced deal with the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) which asked for the IP service provider to offer the agency private line services over the next five years. The contract is reportedly valued in $10 million, if all options are exercised. The new services will be used to connect U.S. Forces in a cross-Pacific link.
