California-based service provider platform provider Sylantro Systems has announced it will be under new leadership as it continues to grow in a continuously evolving IP

Communications world. Marco Limena, the company’s new president and chief executive officer, brings a wealth of communications industry and business management experience, most recently from his position as vice president of Hewlett Packard’s multi-billion dollar network and service provider solution business unit.
“I’m very excited to join Sylantro in this stage of both my career and the company’s evolution,” Limena said. “I had the pleasure to meet several customers and partners of the company and have been highly impressed by how those relationships demonstrate a high level of appreciation for the company.”
Indeed, Limena explained that those business relationships, along with the technical expertise of Sylantro’s employees, are what will enable Sylantro to continue to grow its business. Limena comes to Sylantro from an environment heavily focused on technology, and he regards this as a key driver for the industry as a whole. On the relationship side, Limena managed executive relationships with top-tier customers on the global level, including those with major players in the telecommunications space, like Nokia, Motorola (

“Sylantro has a group of best-in-class partners that any organization would like to have and to leverage. The objective is to build on those relationships and serve those partners and their customers more and more and continue to innovate and leverage the voice opportunity.”
Limena brings extensive experience in cultivating partner relationship to Sylantro. While at HP, he was responsible for all strategic initiatives, industry solutions, and partner relationships for the communications group throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, He also contributed to the HP office of strategy and technology for key corporate initiatives including mobility and digital media.
Sylantro also is among the global leaders in driving the testing, acceptance, and adoption of IMS

infrastructures worldwide. In fact, Sylantro is currently rolling out IMS deployments with the help of its technology partners.
“It’s an example of this new world that’s unfolding, where the telecom voice infrastructure is opened up through open Internet-style interfaces to integrate the Web and voice for all kinds of new applications,” said Pete Bonee, former CEO, who has now assumed the role of Sylantro’s chairman. “That’s really the platform we have for growth and why we’re so bullish on the growth of our company and why we’re bringing in new leadership to take us to that level.”
Limena added that IMS represents a real growth opportunity for Sylantro and that he plans to continue with the company’s existing strategy for developing and driving IMS, including promoting interoperability, which is fundamental to the success of IMS.
“Voice is a great opportunity,” said Limena, noting that more than three-quarters of service provider revenues come from voice services today, and that the potential for integrating telephony into even more applications, including advanced mobile applications, represents a tremendous opportunity.
He noted that Sylantro’s market tested platform is ideally suited to meet the requirements of service providers as they introduce new applications and standards, especially IMS deployments. The Sylantro platform has been built on the premise of SIP-based communications, making video, mobility, and other next generation applications easy to develop and use. For example, Swisscom, a Sylantro client, has developed a consumer video application for use with its VoIP

platform that is built on Sylantro’s platform.
Bonee added that, “It’s a huge opportunity for us and it’s going to drive a lot of growth. This is the reason we brought Marco on board — he has a strong background leading high-growth organizations and significantly larger organizations, which we aspire to become as we ride this growth wave in the voice industry. We’re very happy to have Marco at the helm.”
The feeling is mutual, as Limena believes he could not have found a company better positioned to take advantage of the combination of market conditions and company principles than Sylantro. He says that, in addition to continued development of business partnerships, the company’s growth aspirations will be driven by ongoing innovation. “Innovation is the key, and the DNA of the employees and the founders and the other people in the company is such that innovation is a passion.”
