By Anuradha Shukla

Under a recent agreement with China Netcom’s (News - Alert) Beijing Branch, Ericsson will build an IMS-based multimedia network in Beijing based on Ericsson's IP-Centrex solution.

Ericsson (News - Alert) will be the sole supplier of the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert)) system for Beijing Netcom. System integration services will also be supplied by Ericsson to ensure successful implementation in Beijing Netcom's network.

The commercial IMS network in China is expected to be completed this month.

Ericsson’s IMS multimedia telephony system will provide value-added services to Beijing Netcom’s network, while focusing on IP-Centrex targeting enterprise customers.

Beijing Netcom expects the solution will allow them to introduce a host of multimedia services that combine voice, data, audio and video, bringing an enhanced experience to users in the Beijing area, and the visitors and participants in the Olympic Games in 2008.

“Ericsson is proud to be chosen once again by Beijing Netcom, and this time for building an advanced multimedia network,” says Mats H Olsson, president, Ericsson Greater China in a press release.
