IMS News Roundup

Since it’s been a little while since the last TMCnet IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) news roundup, this seems as good a time as any to give you a rundown on what’s been happening in the world of unified communications, fixed-mobile convergence, and dual-mode telephony. April was a fairly busy month for IMS news, as you’ll see from the reports highlighted here.

 
April 1 -- Sylantro Systems (News - Alert) announced the appointment of Marco Limena as the company’s new president and CEO. Limena told TMCnet that one of his main focuses will be on continued development in the IMS arena, an industry which he indicated shows tremendous promise. [Full story]
 
April 2RADVISION announced the launch of a new industry group, International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium, which will address IMS technology interoperability issues. The group is chaired by Tsahi Levent-Levi, a product manager at RADVISION’s technology business unit. [Full story]
 
April 3 – IMS network equipment provider Enea announced that it signed a two-year, $3 million services services agreement with an unnamed provider of application servers for converged networks. Under terms of the agreement, Enea will assume control of the company's test operations, providing processes, tools, training, audits and management services. [Full story]
 
April 9 – TMCnet highlighted the recently published “IMS for Dummies” from RadiSys—a company that specializes in AdvancedTCA (ATCA)-based computing and networking solutions—in conjunction with Intel (News - Alert). The book is intended to cut through the confusion about IMS (what it is, what it can do, etc.) [Full story]
 
April 10Acme Packet announced that it is evaluating the performance of its Net-Net session border controllers using Navtel’s IMS test solution. The company chose Navtel’s solution because of its scalability, performance, test coverage and ease of use. [Full story]
 
April 12 – TMC announced winners of the first IMS Leadership Awards, through IMS Magazine. This awards program was established to recognize products or services which made outstanding achievements in the growing IMS market. Winning companies included BroadSoft, RadiSys, Siemens, Sprint (News - Alert) Nextel, and Tekelec. [Full story]
 
April 16 – An article by TMCnet president Rich Tehrani highlighted the IMS interoperability partnership between Tekelec and HP. The two companies began collaborating last year and more recently made an announcement that their respective platforms work together. [Full story]
 
April 18 – Rich Tehrani wrote about his recent meeting with Huawei (News - Alert), a Chinese equipment manufacturer with a large suite of products ranging from EVDO cards for laptops to WiMAX and optical networking equipment. The company has ambitious plans to become the world leader in IMS and FMC solutions. [Full story]
 
April 20Ericsson (News - Alert) announced a recent agreement with China Netcom’s Beijing branch, to build an IMS-based multimedia network based on Ericsson’s IP-Centrex solution. The company will serve as sole supplier of Netcom’s IMS system in Beijing, as well as providing system integration services needed for successful completion of the project.
