TeliaSonera has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (

Alert) to deploy a complete IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS

) solution as part of TeliaSonera’s plans to offer attractive IP-based services such as VoIP, video calling and instant messaging.
Before reaching their choice, TeliaSonera conducted testing of platforms from several major IMS vendors as well as conducted interoperability trials on IMS and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol (
News -
Alert)) with the GSM

Association and other leading operators and equipment makers.
The comprehensive and successful evaluations convinced TeliaSonera that new services based on IP

, such as video sharing, would function smoothly across networks and national boundaries from day one.

Nokia Siemens Networks IMS is an open, standardized system for combining mobile and broadband services-- making it possible for end users to seamlessly access the same services over mobile, fixed and WLAN

networks. For example, IMS will allow them to make calls, send messages, engage in instant messaging, and view videos and photos regardless of how they access the network. Users can also have the same address book on their fixed phone, mobile and broadband terminals, and can see whether the person they want to contact is offline or busy.
