Orange and Alcatel-Lucent to Jointly Transform Enterprise Networks

By Johanne Torres

Alcatel (News - Alert)-Lucent has announced a new partnership with Orange Business Services which will enable the companies to work together in order to speed up the global adoption of IP-based communications systems in an effort to transform businesses' networks.

Orange and Alcatel-Lucent have agreed to provide businesses with a suite of end-to-end services supported from design to global implementation, including business telephony services, IP VPNs, fixed-mobile convergence systems, Unified Communication software applications and contact centers with multimedia traffic processing.

This new partnership will enable Orange's customers to choose from either deploying end-to-end Alcatel-Lucent technologies as a traditional network that is owned and operated by the enterprise, or as part of a Managed Communications Services model where the technologies are owned and managed by Orange.

Alcatel-Lucent has had an impressive month so far. Indeed, the company has announced a great number of deals as of late. Just this Monday, for example, it announced that it has agreed to provide Telefónica with the tools necessary to carryout its Presence Server project, including its presence-based IMS convergent multimedia services.

Via its project, Telefónica wants to enable its users to choose availability, and what to do with incoming communications, based on the originator, the time of the day, its location, or any other information which could impact their availability.

The project will enable users to control and manage their availability or "presence" via communication services such as instant messaging, video mailbox, push-to-talk and push-to-view, click-to-call, instant collaboration, both in wired and wireless environments.
