Colleges Deploy Omvox's Emergency Alert System

Omvox Telecom Corp. has reported that two Northeast colleges -- Marymount Manhattan College in New York and St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in New Jersey -- have deployed its Alertify mass alerting and notification system as a part of the company’s grant program. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.- based telecom company is offering its emergency mass alert system for free to universities and colleges while they are chalking out long-term security plans.

“There is no catch here,” said Omvox CEO Michael Self. “We are offering this as a public service. All U.S. colleges and universities will be approved for the grant whether they are large, small, public or private,” Self said. “Many of these institutions are scrambling to enhance their student emergency communications systems in the wake of Virginia Tech, but they are being slowed down by budget considerations and politics. What we are saying is, ‘Don’t let your school go unprotected while you take time to implement a plan. We will put our system in at no charge, so everyone can have peace of mind,” Self added.

The Alertify system sends out emergency messages through SMS (text), email, cell phone, and landline phones simultaneously. The two colleges can start using the system within a week’s time.

Other universities that wish to install the Alertify program can apply for the grant program online or call the company directly at 1-888-98-OMVOX, ext. 257.
