RTSC Wins $16.3M Security Screening Contract for Two Florida Airports

By Susan J. Campbell
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Like it or not, airport screening is one of those necessary evils of traveling. As much as it slows us down and inconveniences us, collectively we do desire safe travel and therefore we put up with this now normal regiment. The tone is quite different for those charged with providing this screening to the airports as this is now big business.

Raytheon (News - Alert) Technical Services Company LLC, a subsidiary of Raytheon Company, has received a $16.3 million contact to provide passenger and baggage screening services at two Florida commercial airports. Under the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Screening Partnership Program (SPP), Raytheon will provide services for Key West International Airport and Florida Keys Marathon Airport. The contract time period lasts four years, four months.

RTSC partnered with McNeil Security Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of McNeil Technologies, and the current SPP contractor at the Greater Rochester International Airport, to provide the TSA a comprehensive screening operations plan, which is designed to comply with TSA airport security standard operating procedures and will address the recruiting and retention challenges in the Florida Keys.

The Raytheon and McNeil team will extend job offers to existing TSA Key West Federal Transportation Security Officers. The staff will also be augmented by approximately 20-30 new hires, providing employment opportunities for residents in the lower Keys. All positions will offer a competitive compensation and benefits plan that has been designed to meet the cost of living requirements in the Florida Keys.

"We are excited about this TSA award because it is an opportunity to continue enhancing RTSC's reputation as a trusted Federal services contractor," said Dave Dacquino, vice president of RTSC's Integrated Support Solutions business area, in a statement. "This contract will help solidify RTSC's position as a strategic partner and allow us to provide Mission Support solutions that enhance homeland security.

"Also, we are very pleased that this contract will provide jobs and economic growth to the residents of the lower Keys," Dacquino added. "It's a win-win for everyone involved."

RTSC’s main focus is to provide technology solutions for defense, federal and commercial customers worldwide. The company specializes in Mission Support, counter-proliferation and counter-terrorism, homeland security solutions, base and range operations and customized engineering and manufacturing.

This partnership is likely to bring robust screening solutions to these two Florida commercial airports, providing more efficient solutions and safer travel. And, while it will still require passengers to get to the airport earlier than they would prefer, a safer world is worth the smallest inconvenience.
