Untangle's Identity Theft Blocker Application Now Comes With Pharming Protection

By Divya Narain
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Untangle Inc., a key provider of network gateways for small and medium businesses, has informed that it has added Pharming protection to its Identity Theft Blocker application. The application not only keeps out Phishing emails but also blocks Pharming websites. The enhancement in the application has been made in view of the growing threat of identity theft through Pharming attacks.

Pharming websites dupe victims into divulging their personal details like user names and passwords by leading them to fake sites that replicate original sites. The URLs of the fraudulent sites are very similar to that of the original sites with only the spelling changed inconspicuously. Also the pharming sites are designed exactly after the target sites making it almost impossible to differentiate between the two.

"Pharming is big business and the sites and techniques continue to become more and more sophisticated. Even Google (News - Alert) Adwords has been used by cyber-criminals to bait victims," said Dirk Morris, founder and chief technology officer of Untangle. "Our customers count on us to keep them up-to-date with the latest in security, and Untangle is pleased to provide this additional layer of protection for their users and networks."
