Net2Phone Accuses Skype of Patent Infringment

By Mae Kowalke
TMCnet Associate Editor

Reuters and The Associated Press reported Friday that a patent infringement lawsuit has been filed against VoIP provider Skype (an eBay, Inc. company) by Net2Phone (an IDT Corp. company).

According to the reports, the suit—filed at the U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J.—alleges that Skype’s (News - Alert) VoIP service infringes on Net2Phone’s patent #704.

Net2Phone is seeking a permanent injunction, plus damages. eBay reportedly could not be reached, and an IDT spokesperson declined to comment.
