SunRocket Intros $299 VoIP Annual Plan

By Johanne Torres

VoIP service provider SunRocket introduced the SunRocket SunSpots Edition on Monday, a new annual, all-inclusive calling plan that will allow consumers to make unlimited calls to any of the 41 countries and cities designated as SunRocket SunSpots for $299.

SunRocket SunSpots includes calls to most of Europe, Far East destinations like China, Japan and South Korea, Latin American destinations like Mexico City, São Paulo, Caracas, and Argentina, plus many other locations worldwide. Calls to mobile phones are not included in the plan, and are charged at lower per-minute rates depending on the destination.

The $299 annual, all-inclusive SunSpots Edition also offers unlimited free calling throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The offering also includes voicemail among the built-in calling features, E911 calling, plus the option to keep their existing phone number.

"The SunRocket SunSpots Edition is welcome relief for consumers who continue to get hammered by other providers when making international calls," said SunRocket's co-founder and chief marketing officer Joyce Dorris in a statement. "For about $25 a month, our customers who make frequent calls overseas to friends and loved ones can talk whenever they want, without having to worry about a nasty surprise on their next month's phone bill."

The VoIP provider also launched the SunRocket Global Edition offering calls to destinations like India, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic. The annual, all-inclusive $349 Global Edition provides a free calling allowance of $20 every month towards international calling to anywhere in the world ($240 worth of free international calls annually) in addition to unlimited calling to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

"No matter where you call, across the street or anywhere around the world, SunRocket continues to break through historic boundaries between local, long distance and global calling," added Dorris. "While traditional phone companies continue to gouge unsuspecting consumers with egregious per-minute charges for international calling, SunRocket remains a champion for delivering the level of value and service our customers expect."

Today's news follows SunRocket announcing that Lisa Hook was appointed president and chief executive officer. "SunRocket is in an extraordinary position to deliver unique communications solutions to consumers," stated Hook. "Voice-over-IP technology is now ready for mass market adoption, and SunRocket's laser focus on consumer value and simplicity will allow it to emerge as the nation's premier choice of Internet phone service, bringing value-added services quickly to market in an exciting way."
