Alloptic Announces 10G EPON Platform for Next-Generation Network Services

By Laura Stotler
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Alloptic Inc. has announced the details of its new Edge 10 platform, a 10 Gigabit capable Ethernet-based Passive Optical Networks (10G EPON) system. The platform supports both 10G EPON and IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3ah Ethernet in the first mile, and offers per flow based quality of service. Alloptic will begin shipping the Edge10 to customers in mid 2007.

The Edge 10’s modular, redundant OLT chassis is designed to meet NEBS Level 3 standards. It features an 800 Gbps backplane as well as advanced packet processing and per flow QoS, an eight-port GE-PON and two-port 10G EPON line cards, as well as multiport 10GE uplink cards. It also offers a number of capabilities for meeting customer bandwidth needs.

Alloptic’s access network solution has been deployed throughout the world and offers four years of field hardened operational history. It leverages a standard ITU PON architecture while also delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. It features the ability to support traditional TDM voice over an Ethernet-based platform, providing worry-free telephone services with seamless support for next-generation services like IP HDTV.

By supporting both GE-PON and 10G EPON on a ‘blade by blade’ basis, the Edge 10 extends our market leadership position by ensuring our customers can cost effectively deliver both high densities of Fast Ethernet and fractional Gigabit Ethernet services for business applications, while supporting the multiple simultaneous streams of High Definition time-shifted IPTV (News - Alert) - crucial for future residential deployments,” said Shane Eleniak, vice president of marketing and business development for Alloptic. “The Edge 10 supports Alloptic's existing family of ONTs and continues our unparalleled support for the broadest range of voice, video, data, and security services with native TDM support, integrated VoIP, optional RF video and a rich set of Ethernet and IP features.”

To find out more next-generation networking technologies and standards, check out the upcoming INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO WEST. The event is the number one VoIP conference in terms of attendance; the leading IP Communications event for exhibitors in terms of lead generation; and the VoIP industry event which features special attractions for service providers and resellers. The event runs October 10-13, 2006 in San Diego.
