The Asia Pacific (APAC) region currently is experiencing significant WiMAX industry growth, research firm
In-Stat reported Monday.
Technological and business-related concerns surrounding WiMAX in Asia remain, but nonetheless the industry (excluding non-radio-access) is worth about $106.4 million, In-Stat says.
The firm predicts that value will grow to $4.3 billion by 2011.
Recent research by In-Stat into APAC’s WiMAX industry uncovered the following:
- WiMAX adoption has been very quick among equipment vendors, who want to optimize their products based on the latest technical specifications
- At least 13 APAC countries currently are deploying trial WiMAX networks
- Service providers in developing countries (e.g. India, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia) are showing great interest in the potential of WiMAX networks to cover under-served markets
"No APAC service provider can ignore WiMAX," In-Stat analyst Victor Liu said in
a statement. "Providers need either to evaluate the possibility of adding WiMAX to their existing services portfolio, or to assess the competitive pressure from other WiMAX service providers."
