MobiKEY Ensures Secure Remote Access to Network Resources

By Greg Galitzine
Group Editorial Director

In the wake of the failed attempts by terrorists to cause explosions aboard airplanes earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security has already lowered the threat level from “red” to “orange” for flights from the United Kingdom to the United States. The U.S. threat level remains at “orange” for all domestic and international flights, and the newly enacted ban on liquids and gels in carry-on baggage remains in full effect.

Said Secretary Michael Chertoff, “We are maintaining our heightened level of security for all flights both domestically and internationally.”

The recent security disruptions and tightening of travel restrictions has underscored the need for corporate travelers to update their pre-flight routines, and has forced many UK-bound travelers to face a reality of checked computers, lost luggage, and the potential corporate security risks associated with lost and stolen laptops. Enterprises need to ensure that their mobile workforce has secure remote access to computing and network resources.

With that in mind, Route1 this morning announced a free, 15-day trial of MobiKEY — an ultra-portable device designed to allow remote users to connect to desktop resources from any Internet-enabled Windows-based PC.

The device is small enough to be toted around on a keychain, and serves as an insurance policy for business continuity and disaster planning.

The device auto-runs from on-board read-only memory and its SIM Smart Card authenticates users with Route1’s MobiNET service, which allows office systems to connect to the guest computer. The solution is said to be virus, malware, and attack resistant. MobiKEY’s instant off design never leaves traces of user’s work on the guest system and should the device be lost or stolen the unit can be switched off by MobiNET. MobiKEY users can telecommute with up to five different computers.

MobiKEY is a part of Route1's Mobi Solution, a platform that enables instant secure, remote computing using thin clients. The platform's Seamless Workspace architecture and workSecure security design were created to allow users to remotely operate office computing and network resources seamlessly and securely while traversing networks.

“We are living in a world where threats of terrorism and concerns around a global pandemic are becoming part of the everyday norm. It is more important than ever that organizations re-evaluate their business continuity strategies to ensure they are prepared for disruption at a moment’s notice,” said Andrew White, CEO of Route1.

Route1 provides ironclad protection that exceeds the common definition of military-grade security by combining the strength of a PKI solution with the trust of two-factor authentication and consistently surpassing the stringent mandates and policies established by government and financial institutions in securing their day-to-day operations. This ensures that business users can connect to digital resources including data, applications and network assets from anywhere in the world, without compromise.
