Polycom (
News -
Alert) introduced on Wednesday the Polycom RMX 2000, a multipoint conferencing platform that allows enterprise users to manage multipoint video (multiple locations on a single call) as well as unified conferencing (video, voice, and content all on a single call) services within IP

networks.
The new conferencing platform provides support for room video conferencing systems, as well as extensive deployments of desktop video collaboration, on-demand or unscheduled conferencing, and high-bandwidth, processing-intensive applications such as high definition (HD) video and “telepresence.”
The platform enables administrators to configure, install and manage services via installation wizards, automated system surveillance, pre-defined profiles, and standard Web-based interfaces. The RMX 2000 has an open architecture and it is based on popular industry standards including SIP

and H.323 for delivering on-demand real-time conferencing and collaboration services over IP networks.
“The RMX 2000 removes distance in today's dispersed global environments,” commented Joe Sigrist, senior vice president and general manager of network systems for Polycom, in a statement. “The RMX 2000 enables people with different devices on the road, at the desktop, in a conference room, or in a telepresence suite to collaborate instantaneously, thereby improving an organization's productivity, efficiency, and time to market. The RMX 2000, alongside the ReadiConvene and MGC+, provides our customers with a comprehensive portfolio of audio, video, and unified conferencing solutions.”
Polycom is currently offering the new platform via qualified channel partners, staring at $53,000.
The new, integrated system features the Digium AsteriskNOW software appliance and Polycom SoundPoint IP desktop phones—all components which the companies say are needed for businesses to deploy a “high quality VoIP

solution.”
