Symmetricom Purchases Technology Assets from Genista

Symmetricom (News - Alert) has reportedly purchased certain technology assets from Genista Corporation.

Intending to expand its presence in QoE assurance markets, Symmetricom will offer CSPs, systems integrators and content providers a broader and seamless set of performance-measurement tools to monitor the quality of IPTV, TV over IP, Video on Demand and other IP-based multimedia services.

According to David R. Cox (News - Alert), executive vice president and general manager of Symmetricom’s QoE Assurance Division, service providers must monitor service quality on a real time basis in order to ensure the delivery of high quality content and optimum service levels to their customers.

“Their ability to quickly and accurately diagnose problems as they arise, and hence to prevent future service issues, will also be critical for CSPs to control rising customer support costs,” said Cox in a statement to the press.

Cox believes the addition of Genista’s technology to their existing QoE solutions will enable providers of advanced video services to monitor streams of both compressed and uncompressed video at various network nodes in order to capture true perceptual quality as experienced by end users.

The company points out that offering a high quality experience for consumers of next generation triple/quad play services requires the assurance of both content integrity and the performance of high bandwidth, IP-based networks.

Yves Cognet, chief technology officer for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division explains that Genista's software complements Symmetricom's V-Factor product technology, a commercially deployed QoE solution that combines both content impairments and real time network performance into a single MOS (mean opinion score) metric in order to monitor end users' QoE.

Dr. Stefan Winkler will become the chief scientist of Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division. Dr.Winkler was chief scientist and a co-founder of Genista.

“Given the fact that 'not all packets are created equal' in an IP-based world, Genista's unique technologies provide essential tools to ensure that the perceived quality of video services meets the increasingly high expectations of today's consumers,” said Dr.Winkler.

“In combination with the solutions already offered by Symmetricom to the world's leading CSPs, we will now be able to offer an end-to-end, highly robust solution that will enable both next generation service providers as well as content providers to monitor service quality,” he concluded.

Symmetricom is a global provider of precise time and frequency products and services.

Genista Corporation is a privately held company in Singapore and Tokyo whose software-based technologies accurately determine the quality of real time video streams as delivered to end-user devices across both fixed and mobile networks.
