relevant programming -

TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - The United Nations is honouring 4REAL, the CTV and MTV in Canada eight-part original documentary series, with a special screening of 4REAL Yawanawa at UN headquarters today in New York City. 4REAL follows a different celebrity each week, to some of the most heartbreaking places on earth, and spotlights inspiring community leaders. 4REAL also received international recognition earlier this month, when producer and co-creator Sol Guy and co-creator Josh Thome were the first Canadians to be honoured with the National Geographic Emerging Explorers Award, for their work on the series. 4REAL is part of CTV's ongoing commitment to produce and support socially relevant programming that helps affect positive change around the world.

Guy and Thome are joined at UN headquarters by Chief Tashka Yawanawa, leader of the Yawanawa tribe, and his wife Laura. 4REAL Yawanawa tells Tashka and Laura's remarkable story of how they helped their community come back from the brink of extinction, and protect the endangered Brazilian rainforest. Featuring executive producer Joaquin Phoenix, 4REAL Yawanawa previously aired on CTV in primetime -along with the rest of the series - and airs again tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT on CTV. The episode also airs this coming Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.

4REAL airs regularly Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on MTV. Upcoming episodes feature Casey Affleck, Mos Def, and Eva Mendes (visit mtvmedia.ca for complete broadcast listings). The 4REAL series is available at mtv.ca and 4REAL.com.

"4REAL is a success story for Canada not only because it has received international recognition, but because it aims to affect positive change around the world," said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. "CTV is committed to supporting inspiring programming and we are proud to be a part of this ground breaking series, created by two dedicated and talented Canadians. Congratulations Sol and Josh!"

"As social entrepreneurs it was critical to create a business model that had a triple bottom line - creating a successful business that is also good for people and good for the planet," said Sol Guy, Producer and Co-creator, 4REAL. "CTV honoured this aspect of our business by cutting a groundbreaking deal, allowing us to give 50 per cent of our profits to the communities featured in the series. This is the business model for the future, creating economic engines for social change."

4REAL is one of a long list of CTV Inc. projects inspiring positive change that includes: the CTV and MTV in Canada-produced MTV Presents: Degrassi in Kenya; the MTV in Canada special Me to We 2007; the CTV Original Documentary A Window Opens - Margaret and Sophie in Ethiopia; Al Gore's Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis; MuchMusic's original series MuchTalks; the 2007 One X One Gala which aired exclusively on CTV; and Live 8 on CTV.

The National Geographic Emerging Explorers Program recognizes and supports uniquely gifted and inspiring young adventurers, scientists, photographers, and storytellers - explorers who are already making a difference early in their careers. 4REAL is currently airing on various National Geographic channels around the world. It will be seen in 166 countries in 35 languages over the next six weeks.
