Philippine government: Deal reached with Muslim rebels on key issue in stalled peace talks

(Associated Press WorldStream Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MANILA, Philippines_The Philippine government says a deal has been reached with Muslim rebels on a key issue that will allow stalled peace talks to resume.

The president's adviser on the peace process, Hermogenes Esperon, says unannounced talks between the two sides have been going on in Malaysia, which has brokered peace talks between the two sides and has provided the bulk of an international truce team in the troubled southern Philippines.

He said late Wednesday that the sticking point in the critical issue of ancestral domain has been resolved and that a memorandum of understanding will be signed on July 24, with formal peace talks to resume afterward.
