Milk co-operative federation to grow at 20 per cent: Dhagat

Ahmedabad, Jan 17, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) --
An integral part of the country's milk grid, Gandhinagar unit of Mother Dairy, today projected a growth of 20 per cent in the milk co-operative federation.

"The way it's expanding, we expect a growth of 20 per cent in milk co-operative federations," Mother Dairy General Manager A K Dhagat told reporters, on the sidelines of Amaethon-2009, 5th Agri-Business Summit organised at IIM-A.

Normal growth in the milk sector is at 4.3 per cent, he added.
According to Dhagat, Amul has milk collection of 100 lakh litres per day and the aggregate average milk collection for the year 2008 was 76 lakh litres per day.

Highlighting the expansion plans of Amul, Dhagat said the country's largest milk co-operative is planning to expand its network of preferred outlets across the country from existing 3,000 to 10,000 by the year 2010.

Amul of which Mother dairy is a part currently collects milk from around 27 lakh milk producers, from its vast network of collection centres, Dhagat said.

"The current total milk demand is between 14-15 lakh litres per day in Ahmedabad," Dhagat said, adding "We do a business of Rs 800 crore in Ahmedabad and up-country market."
