Network Equipment Technologies (News - Alert) announced that itsNX5010 multi-protocol, high speed network exchange InfiniBand platform has been successful in passing the test conducted by TCB Technologies Corporation. TCB Technologies Corporation is an InfiniBand interconnect solutions vendor based in Japan.
Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. provides multi-service network and voice exchange solutions for governments and enterprises. TCB’s tests are used to specifically validate NX5010’s for its reliability, scalability and performance so as to extend InfiniBand fabrics for high speed Wide Area Networks (WAN ).
The NX5010 will be introduced in the Japanese market following a joint marketing and sales campaign planned by NET (News - Alert) and TCB. Besides, TCB proposes to offer solution engineering services to customers in Japan who need InfiniBand extension over the WAN.
InfiniBand over WAN enables interconnection between data centers using the spaced out locations’ processing power and storage resources when delivered by NET’s NX5010. This is specifically designed to cater to next-generation virtual data center, offering real-time database mirroring and grid computing besides data access continuity between sites.
“On its own, InfiniBand provides a ready solution for interconnecting within the data center, but it’s a challenge to link geographically isolated data centers and enable end-user-transparent resource sharing across sites,” said John Sandschulte, VP and GM of NET’s Broadband Technology Group.
“The NX5010 provides a ground-breaking InfiniBand-over-WAN solution to tie together data centers to create a virtual, global data center. The NX5010 has also been successfully deployed by multiple U.S. government agencies,” added Sandschulte.
The testing apparatus constructed with joint efforts from NET and TCB is used to demonstrate the capabilities and performance of NET’s NX5010 solution for InfiniBand over the WAN. During the test many servers which are remotely located are connected over a single, virtual InfiniBand fabric. This enables the deployment of multi-site, multi-node redundant synchronous database applications.
The NX5010 was tested with primary and backup WAN links between sites to show that the NX5010 can emulate the InfiniBand fabric non stop in spite of the WAN link outages.
“We are excited about introducing NET’s highly resilient, high speed NX5010 InfiniBand-over-WAN solution to our Japanese customers. Our customers are very interested in the sheer flexibility and network design simplification that comes from being able to connect multiple disparate data centers to provide operational survivability and disaster recovery capabilities over distances of thousands of kilometers,” remarked Akihiko Kasuya, General Manager of TCB’s Server Solutions Division.
“Extending InfiniBand over the WAN with NET’s NX5010 delivered outstanding performance and reliability at an affordable price. We believe that these solutions will drive a new paradigm in datacenter architecture that will lower expense, provide
redundancy, and deliver higher asset utilization,” stated Kasuya.
