LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels Selects Mitel IP Communications

LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels, a collection of luxury properties including The London NYC in midtown Manhattan, selected Mitel (News - Alert) IP in an effort to enhance the guest experience, lower communication costs and increase profits.

As the time came to replace their out-dated TDM telephone solution, The London NYC decided to install an all-IP solution.

As the tallest hotel in Manhattan and home to the famous Gordon Ramsey restaurant, The London NYC selected the Mitel solution to help maintain their sophisticated and elegant image.

LXR Luxury Resorts will install the Mitel 5300-series IP phones in all of the 561 suites and back office operations for a total of 1,200 end points.

“Our goal in purchasing the Mitel solution was to make certain we could provide our guests with the very latest, most sophisticated technology available,” said Shannon Knox, senior vice president, information technology, LXR Luxury Resorts.

“The flexibility of the 5300-series IP Phones allows us to customize speed dials and features on each set. We are also able to offer increased guest services on the phone. For example, we offer the local weather information and a jukebox feature,” explained Knox.

With the easy-to-use Mitel software development kit, The London NYC is able to create graphical phone applications. The toolkit makes it easy to display complex graphical images on the phone’s display to personalize each guest’s experience while also generating revenue opportunities.

In-house revenue generation possibilities, for example, can range from helping guests schedule hotel services like room service or spa appointments when they want.

In addition, there are opportunities to partner with local attractions such as entertainment and shopping complexes, and museums to obtain activity information at the touch of a button.

It was also important that all technology - Voice, HSIA, IPTV - was able to run over the same network infrastructure, making it simple to manage and monitor one network and reduce infrastructure costs to deliver multiple services to the guest room and back office staff.

The London NYC also wanted to deploy session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking. Traditionally supported on the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP), SIP trunking allows The London NYC to offer guests free calling to London, England and drastically reduced rates across North America and other parts of the world. This option may also be utilized in other LXR Luxury Resort properties as scheduled renovations become finalized.

Accredited Mitel Hospitality specialist, TelNet, played an active part in ensuring Luxury Resorts’ complete satisfaction.

“Meeting the exacting requirements of this customer with such a large project in the heart of New York City was a challenge,” said Russell McComb, president, TelNet. “But the 3300 ICP and the 5300 IP phones proved to provide both reliability and features necessary for cutting-edge hospitality technology.”
