Pannaway Adds 2.5 GPON Access Modules and Non-Blocking Fabric to its MAGNM-20 MSAP
By Patrick Barnard TMCnet Contributing Editor Pannaway (News - Alert) Networks, which offers advanced network access solutions that enable service providers to gradually migrate from hybrid to all-IP networks, has introduced new 2.5 GPON
As per a company press release, the new MAGNM-20 2.5 GPON OLT blade provides four, 2.5/1.2 OLT ports, resulting in a capacity to service that exceeds 2,300 end points per chassis. Pannaway claims service providers can seamlessly upgrade to include 2.5 GPON “without any service disruptions.” The new MAGNM-20 10GbE Fabric enables operators to boost the speed of transport along the fiber ring to 10Gbps. Pannaway claims the resultant increase in throughput means “the network is never starved on bandwidth and can support popular subscriber functions like streaming Internet video and IPTV These new additions, which will enter customer beta trials in Q2, add further flexibility to the MAGNM-20 platform, which Pannaway claims “is the industry’s most dense, carrier-class, non-blocking GPON platform based on Ethernet “The Service Convergence Network architecture allows us to add upgrades to the core network we’ve built with Pannaway over the last two years, as we prepare to add more than 200 Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscribers,” said Bill Fogg, network planner for Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom, located in Waitsfield, Vermont. “And, as we add area schools to our Pannaway solution, the promise of zero downtime is very important." “Industry experts have validated that Ethernet is the core technology that will enable telco service providers to stay competitive for the long haul,” said Ed Buchner, vice president of corporate marketing and partner programs at Pannaway. “Pannaway’s latest SCN enhancements provide customers with the tremendous value that comes from the most flexible Multi-Service Access Platform that is all Ethernet, truly Carrier Class and architecturally able to scale for years to come.” Pannaway Networks, formerly Pannaway Technologies, made news on TMCnet earlier this month when it announced that it has added new functionality to its award-winning SCN architecture. Specifically, the company has added new Ethernet/IP capabilities to the Inteleflex broadband loop carrier (BLC) platform, which it acquired last year from TelStrat, and has renamed the platform MAGNM-FX. Using the MAGNM-FX platform in conjunction with Pannaway’s SCN IP access system, telcos can make the transition to all-IP networks at their own pace. In addition, these products allow service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively roll out new services and add new features to their existing IP-based services. In addition, Pannaway has added holistic remote management capabilities within its Broadband Access Manager (BAM). Select Pannaway customers will be partaking in beta trials of the enhanced BAM software and the PTM in the second quarter of 2008. (To learn more, visit www.pannaway.com/products/inteleflex.cfm.)
