Black Box (

Alert) has released a new line of KVM switches that work over IP

networks. With ServReach KVMoIP switches, IT professionals have the tools to easily and securely reach, access, and manage virtually every server at any location.
Part of the ServSwitch line, the ServReach family includes the KVMCube, KVMGate, KVMultiport, and KVManager. The ServReach family is the next generation in KVM switching technology.
The compact, cost-effective, and scalable ServReach KVMCube includes a power supply and a USB cable. Compatible with PoE networks as well as PS/2 applications, the ServReach KVMGate works to provide IP functionality to non-IP KVM switches. In addition, the unit works as a standalone KVM switch and is an excellent choice for hybrid networks that may have PS/2, USB, and Sun components. According to Black Box, each ServReach KVMultiport extends the KVMoIP access to up to 16 target servers for expanding networks.
Franco Tavella, product manager for Black Box said the ServReach KVM system represents the defining completion of the evolutionary path from circuit-based KVM switching to IP-based KVM packet switching. He pointed out that this is very similar to the successful IP evolution of voice and data that has made IP networks so widespread and successful.
Black Box’s switches provide security with 128-bit SSL encryption and BIOS-level control over IP. By utilizing the Internet, a LAN

, or a local KVM station, the units enable users to troubleshoot, manage, configure, and reboot remote servers. These products are used as standalone devices or as part of a ServReach system, increasing productivity and decreasing costs. These products also save time by eliminating the need for new equipment and service calls to the site.
The company explains that no system modification or special software is required to operate the new KVM switches — just a browser running Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0, and Windows 98 or higher. The ServReach KVManager manages the entire ServReach system and other embedded KVM switches over IP.
Black Box was recently in news for announcing two TEMPEST approved USB KVM switches, the ServSwitch Secure (with USB) (SW2007A-USB, SW4007A-USB). These switches allow users to safely switch between secured and unsecured networks as well as those with multiple security classifications.
