ScanSource Acquires UK-Based MTV Telecom

By Anshu Shrivastava
TMCnet Contributing Editor

ScanSource, a distributor of specialty technology products, has acquired MTV Telecom Distribution, a UK-based distributor of voice and data solutions.

ScanSource notes this acquisition of MTV Telecom is a key step in its strategy to become a pan-European distributor of voice and data solutions.

The MTV Telecom management team is expected to remain in place, led by Martin Hatcher, executive chairman, and Natalie Foers, managing director, and will report to Xavier Cartiaux, managing director at ScanSource Europe.

ScanSource, according to Cartiaux, has been looking for an opportunity to expand its communications offering internationally, and MTV Telecom is a great addition to the company’s United States communications strategy and also European operations.

He also pointed out in a statement that Avaya, Polycom (News - Alert), Plantronics and other communications manufacturers have realized success in the United States through company’s Catalyst Telecom and ScanSource Communications sales units and will provide “valuable incremental opportunities for MTV Telecom.”

Cartiaux expects that resellers will benefit from the value-added services and solutions, marketing programs and financial resources that ScanSource brings to the UK and European communications industry.

Hatcher explained that ScanSource’s commitment to its resellers mirrors MTV Telecom, which is why this acquisition made so much sense to the company.

“By joining ScanSource, our resellers will see much opportunity for growth in the UK and beyond. What’s more, our vendor partners will have access to a value-added distributor that has proven its commitment to growing the channel,” he added.

MTV Telecom vendor partners include Avaya, Siemens (News - Alert), Panasonic and Swyx.

This week, the company also announced that it would now be carrying Avaya’s (News - Alert) mid-market enterprise solutions.

Last month, ScanSource entered into an agreement with PC4, a wholesale distributor of point-of-sale (POS) hardware, to purchase certain assets of the company, including PC4’s commercial POS product inventory.
