CEPM Selects ECI Telecom's Optical Solution, Eyes Dominican Market

Consorcio Energético Punta Cana–Macao (CEPM), a privately owned energy consortium, announced today that it’s chosen ECI’s optical solution as it moves into the Dominican Republic’s rapidly growing telecommunications market.

ECI said it plans to deliver the optical infrastructure to CEPM, which is building a new fiber network. The optical infrastructure is expected to create enough flexibility to meet increased traffic demands.

CEPM officials say their company will use ECI’s XDM Multi-Service Provisioning and Transport Platform (MSPP/MSTP) solution to provide more opportunities to its customers to leverage increased bandwidth needs. The solution is designed to offer the flexibility and scalability required for growing markets. By deploying ECI’s XDM, CEPM expects not only to strengthen its competitive edge but also to increase its ability to respond to growing bandwidth requirements as they arise.

Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster, president of CEPM, said that they realized ECI would be the best partner for them to meet the growing demands for bandwidth and new services in the region. He said that ECI’s XDM platform provides the most cost-effective solution for an efficient migration to next-generation networks, enabling increased transport capabilities for their new fiber network and improving connectivity across the nation.

“We look forward to working together as this network continues to develop and we approach the next expansion phase,” Gonzalez-Bunster said.

CEPM officials say they’ve decided to provide transport capacity from the Caribbean NAP, located in the Parque Cibernético Santo Domingo, to the eastern part of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana. Under the agreement, ECI will supply CEPM and its customers with WDM, SONET and Ethernet capabilities. These will improve traffic and increase the number of available services to the surrounding and expanding resorts and airports, the companies said.

According to Rafi Maor (News - Alert), chief executive officer and president of ECI Telecom, CEPM’s selection of their XDM platform demonstrates the continuous success of their optical solutions, as well as their suitability for a range of different markets.

Maor said that ECI’s experience in carriers’ market will serve the company well as it supports CEPM in its expansion into this business, and that the experience will be able to provide CEPM with a smooth migration path for their needs.
