Horry Telephone Cooperative Inc. selected Spirent Communications (News - Alert), a global provider of performance analysis and service management solutions, to support its network service monitoring and remote diagnostics operations.

HTC (News - Alert), which serves business and residential subscribers in Horry and Georgetown counties in South Carolina, has deployed Spirent REACT Test Management Operations Support System to ensure network reliability and improve customer satisfaction.

“HTC is committed to delivering the most reliable communications services possible at the best possible value to our members,” said Frank Sarvis, chief executive, network engineering of Horry. “After an extensive search, we decided on Spirent REACT since it enables us to cost effectively deliver the highest quality of service (QoS) for multiple services with the ability to adapt to future testing needs.”

While voice applications continue to be the biggest revenue generator for telecommunications service providers, especially operators serving regional and local communities, there is a growing demand for services such as digital cable and high-speed Internet access. This is increasing the pressure to deploy test solutions that enable carriers to conduct complex test strategies, provision and manage multiple services in a multi-vendor network environment.

“Spirent has long been the important player in the service assurance arena with our market leading remote diagnostics and hand-held solutions,” said John Cunningham, vice president service assurance at Spirent. “This engagement with HTC, re-affirms our commitment to serving the requirements of the service provider community.”

Spirent REACT enables HTC to streamline its network services testing process by providing remote testing coverage in a configuration that reduces expensive hardware investments. This initial deployment not only addresses the current needs of HTC, it also provides the scalability and flexibility to expand the network and effectively monitor Triple Play (News - Alert) services available to its subscribers. With a distributed architecture, Spirent REACT gives HTC unsurpassed visibility into network services to manage customer experience and QoS.

Spirent REACT supports technologies such as analog special services, DS1/E1/DS3/E3, high-speed DSL and optical SONET networks in the world’s largest and most complex data and voice networks. It provides an integrated service view with the ability to automate complex test strategies via expert dialogs, enabling providers to mainstream complex services. REACT’s multiple software modules and distributed architecture provide the basis for scalable solutions integrating visibility across technology layers, vendors and networks.

HTC is the nation’s largest telephone cooperative and the 25th largest telephone company. HTC offers local telephone service, long distance, Digital Wireless, Digital Cable, High-Speed Internet Access, and advanced Business Services such as Remote Recovery Services, Local Area Network and Wide Area Network design, firewall and Virtual Private Network security. HTC Communications offers local telephone service in the city of Conway, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Little River, Pawleys Island and the city of Georgetown.
