RMI Corporation Offers FIPS Certified XLS and XLR Processors
By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have awarded the FIPS 140-2 certification to Multi-Core Multi-Threaded XLS and XLR Processors from RMI Corporation. The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 represents the U.S. Government’s stringent security standard for cryptographic modules.
RMI products are used by system and original equipment manufacturers to address various Digital Consumer, Wireless, Networking and Security applications and provide advanced processor technology in performance and integration. The company's XLR, XLS, and Alchemy processor families create highly-integrated designs incorporating advanced internal architectures and built on leading-edge silicon process technologies as they are based on an innovative MIPS-compatible architecture.
The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 is widely regarded as the benchmark for the highest levels of security assurance and it is being rapidly adopted by both government agencies and secure private industries such as finance, banking and healthcare.
Taking advantage of the integrated Autonomous Security Acceleration Engine for FIPS certification, various security and networking equipment suppliers have implemented the XLS and XLR Processors in their systems. A sampling of equipment vendors that have reached certification can be found on the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) Validation List at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cavp/documents/dss/dsaval.htm
RMI Corporation is a fabless semiconductor company and it provides high performance System-on-a-Chip Processor (News - Alert) Solutions for Communication and Media applications. Catering to a wide variety of integrated next generation applications for the Infrastructure, Enterprise and Consumer markets, RMI develops highly integrated, feature-rich processors with advanced 32 and 64-bit architectures.
“RMI joins many other companies such as Intel, AMD (News - Alert), Freescale, ARM and numerous ASIC products that have crossed this certification threshold. The certification of the XLS and XLR Processors as the first multi-core multi-threaded processors is an important milestone for RMI as a leader in the security market delivering the highest levels of throughput and performance,” said Mark Litvack, director, business development, RMI.
