2Wire Has Reasons to Celebrate
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor
Broadband solutions provider 2Wire has more than one reason to celebrate, as the company has turned ten and announced the shipment of its 20 millionth HomePortal intelligent gateway.
Pat Romano, co-founder, president, and CEO of 2Wire sees limitless opportunities for 2Wire in the broadband marketplace now.
The market is going through a period of significant maturation and consolidation and 2Wire has scale, technology, a large customer base, and a world class group of employees on their side.
Romano said that their history demonstrates that they consistently change the game in the industry through innovative combinations of technologies and services. These attributes have served the company well in the past and will continue to do so as they forge ahead.
Founded in 1998 by a team of four friends, including current CEO Pasquale "Pat" Romano, 2Wire is now one of the leading providers of broadband gateways in the world, and continues to set the standard for excellence in broadband access equipment and user experience.
Committed to developing innovative solutions that unify network-enabled home devices and equipment on a single platform, 2Wire has successfully expanded its presence internationally and developed several notable solutions in the broadband space, including residential gateways, multi-service media platforms, intelligent home servers, and remote CPE management systems.
Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks Associates said that from the beginning, it seems that 2Wire correctly anticipated and timed the growth currently witnessed in the broadband market.
Scherf observed that 2Wire continues to lead the market to this day, with innovations in residential gateways, storage solutions, and convergent video and digital entertainment offerings.
By the end of 2008, 27 million households worldwide are predicted to have residential gateways, growing to more than 70 million by the end of 2012. He thinks 2Wire is very well positioned to continue capitalizing on this growth with its expanding portfolio of products and services.
2Wire's notable industry firsts include:
--First splitter-less DSL self-install solution and first intelligent residential gateway in 2000
--First wireless gateway in 2001
--First TR-069-compliant remote CPE management system (CMS) in 2004
--First multi-service media platform to integrate DSL and satellite television services (MediaPortal) in 2004, and
--First outdoor broadband home gateway (HomePortal iNID) in 2006
