KFVE Inks New Deal with Hawaii IPTV

KFVE (K5 The Home Team) has reportedly inked a multi-year deal with Hawaii IPTV (News - Alert) (TVfromHawaii.com), Hawaii’s global Internet protocol television network.

Hawaii IPTV will now be able to broadcast select home UH sports live and on-demand to its worldwide subscriber base beginning in the upcoming 2008 to 2009 season. The deal enables Hawaii IPTV subscribers to view UH sporting events from anywhere in the world outside of Hawaii on their televisions.

Company officials inform that subscribers can view Hawaii broadcasts via the Internet direct to their TV. Subscribers can expect to have a great time with more than 60 games planned to be aired, including wahine and men’s volleyball and basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and Warrior football. This contract doesn’t include UH road games as well as any sporting events that are blocked out due to ESPN (News - Alert) or other nationwide television broadcasts.

John Fink, general manager of KHNL and KFVE said that KFVE has been a proud supporter and partner of UH sports for 25 years. He sees this as a wonderful opportunity, through Hawaii IPTV, to be able to give their athletes and athletic programs this kind of exposure outside of the state.

Through this service local programming will reach beyond traditional broadcast boundaries, which according to the company’s sources were earlier limited by predetermined coverage areas. Hawaii IPTV was launched in 2007, and since its launch the demand for UH sports has been at the top of the list for all of its subscribers.

According to Kimberly Dey, vice president of Hawaii IPTV, UH sports have been something their customers have looked forward to enjoying since they first began their services. She noted that the customers can finally enjoy UH Sports live anywhere they are around the world.
