Zephyr Launches PASSPORT Terminal Emulation Software
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Zephyr announced the launch of a new Rumba replacement campaign that will enable customers to seamlessly switch to Zephyr’s PASSPORT terminal emulation software. This initiative from Zephyr is in response to enquiries regarding replacement of the Rumba, OnWeb and OnNet terminal emulation software products after the sale of NetManage (News - Alert) to Micro Focus.
Zephyr’s PASSPORT terminal emulation software offers access to legacy applications found on IBM (News - Alert) zSeries (mainframe), iSeries (AS/400) and UNIX systems. PASSPORT can be used to integrate Visual Basic and C++ applications with legacy applications on the Windows desktop like RUMBA. It also features the use of VB Script as a foundation for productivity enhancing macros. Also, Zephyr’s PASSPORT WEB TO HOST offers centralized administration, easy deployment and features found in OnWeb and OnNet.
Screen scraping applications, written for Micro Focus products like Rumba, make use of the HLLAPI application programming interface, which is compatible with PASSPORT as it is. This does not require any programmatic changes and this kind of API compatibility allows HLLAPI applications to support Rumba as a standard.
PASSPORT is a solution capable of replacing incumbent terminal emulation solutions like Micro Focus’ Rumba, Attachmate’s EXTRA! and IBM Personal Communications or Client Access. This also enables reduction in costs and lowering of operational expenses. Zephyr software licensing plan helps companies realize savings by offering a tailored and flexible plan.
Zephyr’s PASSPORT PC TO HOST or PASSPORT WEB TO HOST terminal emulation software are suitable replacements for Micro Focus Rumba and OnWeb as organizations terminal emulation costs are reduced by up to 73 percent with no loss of functionality. The transition from Rumba to PASSPORT is fast and simple as configuration for compatibility takes less time.
Zephyr now offers flexible, hassle-free licensing plans which cater to customers’ individual needs. Rumba users faced problems regarding complex, time-consuming license tracking and administration requirements.
HLLAPI-based screen-scraping applications written for Rumba can be used with PASSPORT, which protects existing screen scraping applications. PASSPORT has been developed for IP communication and is smaller than Rumba in installation size but much faster. Zephyr also offers standard ways of deployment of PASSPORT:MSI (News - Alert), SMS, Citrix, Microsoft IIS and WebSphere. PASSPORT PC TO HOST 2007 is certified for Windows Vista.
Organizations that are currently using Rumba, OnNet or OnWeb for host access can discuss regarding technical considerations and financial benefits with Zephyr in order to transition to a Zephyr solution.
