Performance Technologies Intros AdvancedMC
By Anshu Shrivastava TMCnet Contributor Performance Technologies, a developer of communication platforms and systems, announced the addition of a new module to its AdvancedMC (News - Alert) (Advanced Mezzanine Card or AMC) single board line of computers, AMC122.
The AMC122 is a 64-bit AdvancedMC (AMC) single board compute module. The module is built on Intel (News - Alert) Core 2 Duo that features a 64-bit dual-core 2.16 GHz processor.
For those who are not familiar with AdvancedMC it is a printed circuit board that follows specification of the PCI Industrial Computers Manufacturers Group (PICMG).
The AMC122 is designed as ultra high-performance computing solution for AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) and MicroTCA systems, which can meet the increasing demands for cost-effective and modular processing capabilities.
AdvancedTCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture) is a series of industry standard specifications for the next generation of carrier grade communications equipment.
MicroTCA (News - Alert) is also a standard that targets at supplying a COTS (Commercial, off-the-shelf) chassis, which will enable AMC cards to function without any AdvancedTCA carrier card.
MicroTCA and AdvancedMC are emerging as standards of choice for system architects and designers who are intending to develop next-generation low profile, high-density, high-performance systems, says company. Designers who intend to use COTS platforms based on these standards can reduce development cycles and also reduce time-to-market launches.
Other key features of the AMC122 include: supports up to 8GB DRAM; MiniSD site for onboard program and OS storage; enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology for more efficient power management; 4 MB shared L2 cache; low latency; high bandwidth; compatible with the company’s MTC5070 MicroTCA platform; 64-bit memory addressability up to 4 GB, PC2-3200 DDR2 with ECC; TCP/IP offload (TOE), iSCSI, RDMA all on Ethernet channels; compliant with AMC.0 R2.0, AMC.1 R1.0, AMC.2 R1.0, AMC.3 R1.0 specifications; support for both 32- and 64-bit operating systems including Linux, Windows XP, Solaris 9/10, and NexusWare CGL OS and its development environment.
"Emerging design applications in telecommunications, aerospace and defense, enterprise, and industrial settings are pushing the envelope on compute requirements," said Tony Romero, senior product manager, Performance Technologies. "Our AMC122, when combined with our award-winning MicroTCA platform, the MTC5070, and Carrier Grade Linux OS, NexusWare, offer a ready-to-use, very high performance and cost-effective solution for next generation MicroTCA-based applications, such as communication servers, security, and data acquisition and processing applications."
AMC122 is RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) compliant.
Rochester, New York-based Performance Technologies is basically a supplier of integrated IP-based platforms and solutions for advanced communications networks and innovative computer system architectures.
