RMI Alchemy Au1250 Processor to Be Used in Chip PC's Thin-Client Device

RMI Corporation announced that Chip PC Technologies, specializing in desktop virtualization and server-centric solutions, has selected RMI Alchemy Au1250 Processor (News - Alert). The processor will be used in its next-generation thin-client device, the Xtreme PC LX, which is suitable for enterprise and educational applications.

 
Israel-based Chip PC (News - Alert) drives desktop virtualization and server-centric computing. It develops and manufactures desktop computing solutions for smart user desktop devices and also for Active-Directory-based management software.
 
The Alchemy Au1250 Processor will power the Xtreme PC LX which operates at 600MHz and is capable of supporting 1600x1200 resolution display, besides offering advanced multimedia capabilities in a highly compact form factor which is energy efficient.
 
The Xtreme PC LX operates the Chip PC LX-Operating System with Video-over-RDP (VoRDP), multimedia functionality and hardware acceleration. A RISC-based architecture is used in the device which increases the storage. It also features DVI or VGA video, 2 channel audio, a USB 2.0 and a power-by-monitor option.
 
“Chip PC selected the RMI Alchemy Processor Family for its thin-client solutions requiring advanced multimedia capabilities with extremely low-power requirements,” commented Ronit Pasternak, marketing director, Chip PC.
 
“We continue to be impressed by the advanced integration levels, the multimedia performance and the high-end processing capabilities that the Alchemy Au1250 provides and we look forward to expanding our current relationship,” added Pasternak.
 
The RMI Alchemy Au1250 Processor Family is capable of offering high-performance, low-power processor which enables consumer sand enterprise media applications to benefit from its rich multi-media performance. The multi-media experience offered to end-users is in the under ½ watt (450Mw) power level.
 
The Au1200 Processor Family media processors are most suitable for full-featured Portable Media Players, Personal Navigation Devices (PND) and Thin-Client devices.
 
 System designers are able to create full-featured consumer solutions with less design cycle times as the RMI Alchemy offers a simple and convenient solution to achieve this.
 
Mike Wodopian, vice president and general manager, Media Processor Solutions at RMI, explained that the thin-client market is a targeted segment for the company. Chip PC can make several advancements using the RMI Alchemy product family taking full advantage of the Au1250’s superior multimedia capabilities and performance. This will be in line with Chip PC’s utilization of RMI’s Au1550 Processor previously.
 
RMI offers optimum solutions in processor technology enhancing performance and integration. The company caters to the needs of the original equipment manufacturers to address the infrastructure, enterprise, and consumer markets. The company’s XLR, XLS, and Alchemy processor families are based on MIPS-compatible architectures.
