Twisted Pair's WAVE Software Enables Rapid Emergency Evacuations
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Twisted Pair Solutions (News - Alert), specializing in unified communications software built according to open standards, made an announcement regarding its WAVE software deployment at Air Evac Lifetime (AEL). As an emergency response organization, AEL successfully evacuated several people in Texas during hurricanes Gustav and Ike this year.
AEL is a large air medical operation in the U.S. It uses WAVE (News - Alert) software technology for the immediate and seamless connection of flight crews with receiving hospital medical staff in spite their equipments not being compatible.
“AEL is dedicated to helping its patients receive the medical attention they need as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Don Looper, communications systems manager at Air Evac Lifeteam.
“With a hurricane, the number of patients needing urgent medical attention or transfer from one location to another can increase exponentially, so it’s important that we have a communications system in place that can easily handle this increased demand. Fortunately, WAVE is designed to offer almost unlimited scalability, allowing us to respond to critical events with absolute confidence in our communications capabilities,” he added.
AEL utilizes Twisted Pair’s WAVE software for enabling disparate communication systems to interoperate seamlessly as in the case of IP phones and radios. Flight crews will be able to communicate directly using their radios with people who make emergency calls using WAVE. This allows clear and effective transfer of critical patient information.
WAVE enabled AEL’s emergency workers to dispatch and track helicopter air medical evacuations from Texas area hospitals during hurricanes Ike and Gustav.
Tom Guthrie, president and CEO at Twisted Pair Solutions, expressed his pleasure on being part of the life-saving efforts performed by AEL on a daily basis. According to Guthrie, evacuation plans can be executed conveniently and rapidly owing to WAVE with least inconvenience to patients. Twisted Pair will be able to help other public safety organizations like AEL for facilitating such large scale and day-to-day emergency response capabilities with strong communications.
AEL attends to emergency calls for air medical service from as many as 635,000 members and over 1,300 hospitals and EMS agencies in several states. The organization operates about 100 helicopters from 75 bases. National Interop (News - Alert), a partner organization of Twisted Pair, is involved with the installation of WAVE and is in its final stages of deployment.
Twisted Pair Solution’s WAVE software technology helps partners and customers in building and operating secure and scalable communications solutions suitable for the growing IT requirements. The best way to solve complexities associated with communications interoperability is with a software approach. This can unify multiple and diverse communications technologies as shown by Twisted Pair’s WAVE.
