Netvue installed IPTV system at Sony BMG Music

Netvue, a provider of IPTV (News - Alert) and Digital Signage solutions, has installed an IPTV system at the new UK headquarters of Sony BMG Music Entertainment in Kensington, London.

Its IPTV systems distribute live broadcast TV, streamed video channels and Digital Signage all around on computer network. Users get the privilege to watch TV and video on computers as well as LCD and Plasma display screens using this system.

Jonathan Rackowe, Netvue Technical director, said Sony BMG saved themselves the labour and expense of installing hundreds of metres of coaxial cables by choosing IPTV. He said that Sony BMG (News - Alert) gained all the benefits of IPTV, such as video on the computer desktop.

Netvue installed and configured rooftop equipment and Exterity head-end equipment supporting Sony BMG in rolling out the IPTV receivers and desktop applications.

By installing Exterity “head-end” equipment network managers can take Digital Terrestrial and Satellite TV straight from the broadcaster via the aerial or satellite dish and distribute it over the local area network, (usually existing cat 5 cable), to any network point.

This solution has the advantage of guaranteed performance and scalability given that LAN bandwidth is pretty ubiquitous these days. Similarly non-digital video sources (e.g. DVD’s) can be distributed over the LAN by using an Exterity encoder at the head-end.

Mike Blacklee, Facilities Director for Sony BMG, said that he chose an IPTV system because it made sense to use the IT network infrastructure as a delivery mechanism for digital quality pictures for flagship headquarters building.

Viewers can watch live broadcast television channels from Freeview and Satellite using Exterity TVgateway and Pro-Encoder products, distributed across Sony BMG local area network.

Colin Farquhar, CEO of Exterity, said: “As the market leading building IPTV company, Exterity is improving the way live television and video are distributed around buildings. Companies like Sony BMG are realising that IPTV represents significant technological and financial benefits, compared with problematic coaxial systems.”
