TranSwitch Corporation Signs Licensing Agreement with a Semiconductor Company
By Jai C.S. TMCnet Contributor TranSwitch (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of semiconductor solutions for the converging voice, data and video network has just signed a multi-year technology licensing agreement with a semiconductor company for its DisplayPort technology. Total revenue from this deal is said to be more than $1 million per year.
As per the terms of this agreement, the semiconductor company is planning to incorporate different TranSwitch intellectual property cores in the area of video transport. The deal includes multiple upfront license fee arrangements and multiple royalty streams.
“This is a landmark achievement for TranSwitch; this adoption validates TranSwitch technology in this area as truly world-class,” said, Santanu Das, president and chief executive officer at TranSwitch Corporation.
TranSwitch Corporation has been designing, developing and marketing semiconductors and technologies and has a special focus to serve telecom, datacom, cable television and wireless markets. The company has developed a family of products for video transport, including High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 1.3, DisplayPort, as well as dual mode products supporting both standards.
DisplayPort is the new high definition video transport standards set by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) that states how digital audio/video interconnects can be used between computer and display monitors, or computers and home theater systems.
TranSwitch HDMI and DisplayPort technology is based upon technology adopted through the Mysticom acquisition in 2006 and feature a fourth generation serializer/deserializer, an integrated circuit transceiver that converts parallel data to serial data and vice-versa.
“Our unique signal integrity controls an adaptive equalizer, which have been well tested over the years, position us to be a market leader in the large and rapidly growing video transport market,” said Amir Bar-Niv, vice president for Systems and Applications at TranSwitch Corporations.
Bar-Niv also mentioned that with this technology, consumers will get a better video experience.
Additionally, TranSwitch offers a complete package to assist customers through all phases of development, design integration and manufacturing of their Systems-on-Chips (SoCs). It also provides comprehensive support and training to developers utilizing TranSwitch technology.
Earlier this year, TranSwitch announced a HDMI licensing agreement for its 3.5 Gbps HDMI 1.3 Intellectual Property (IP) core. The company is also planning to launch various new products in this area.
