AboveNet Expands Operations to Equinix's Paris and Frankfurt IBX Datacenters

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

AboveNet Communications UK Ltd., a provider of fiber optic connectivity solutions, has expanded operations to Equinix’s Paris-Saint Denis (PA2) and Frankfurt-North (FR2) Internet Business Exchange (IBX) datacenters.

The company also recently upgraded to the latest Juniper MX960 routing node, and with this expansion aims to enable their customers to access their IP Transit and VPN services from a wider range of Equinix (News - Alert) datacenters across Europe.

Company officials said that they already have deployments in Equinix’s datacenters throughout the U.S. and London, and this expansion will enable Equinix customers in Paris and Frankfurt to utilize AboveNet's high quality connectivity solutions. These customers will also leverage the Juniper MX960 routing node to access AboveNet's low latency, Tier-1 IP Transit network in addition to deploying an AboveNet VPN service to interconnect cities throughout Europe and the U.S.

AboveNet's European routers required massive bandwidth availability in order to support the new connectivity services between Equinix sites, and the Juniper MX960 router has allowed AboveNet to address customer demands for high bandwidth, ultra fast connectivity.

By deploying the latest Juniper MX and T-Series routers throughout London and the U.S., AboveNet is enabling Equinix customers to seamlessly connect multiple locations. The company reports demand for these types of services, especially from finance houses that want to connect the London, Frankfurt, New York and Chicago business districts.

Steve Potts, AboveNet's sales engineering and networks director, observed that their company can offer its high quality IP Transit and low-latency VPN services between even more Equinix locations through the addition of backbone capacity and Juniper MX Series routers in Frankfurt and Paris.

Potts explained that a combination of AboveNet’s extended network reach, and their portfolio of advanced connectivity solutions enables their clients to bring their remote sites together on one network, with a single provider.

“AboveNet's expansion to Equinix's Paris and Frankfurt centres offers our customers another Tier 1 network and managed services provider in those centres,” said Eric Schwartz, president of Equinix Europe.

He believes the carriers, enterprises and content providers already operating at Equinix will greatly benefit from AboveNet's high quality IP Transit and low-latency VPN services.
