NEC Corporation, a provider of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions, reportedly announced its participation in Global MSF Interoperability 2008, which focuses on promoting interoperability and standardization of next generation networks and open architecture sponsored by the international MultiService Forum.

This year, NGN participated in the verification testing of its NGN and Internet Protocol TV related products including NC500 Series, NC5000 Series, NC7000 Series, NC9000 Series, QoS router, and IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert)-based user equipment.

GMI tests are conducted with an aim to support, implement and gauge the latest NGN-related international standards as they apply to a wide variety of companies and the products’ interoperability in a multi-vendor environment, NEC (News - Alert) said. The tests were conducted in five locations in the United States, England and China.

NEC demonstrated the interoperability tests of its equipment covering IMS, IPTV (News - Alert) and service-oriented architecture technologies at a site provided by Verizon in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The IMS-based IPTV testing included recording and replay functions of video on demand services, in addition to the testing of QoS control through a high traffic environment for IPTV. Also there was an SOA testing conducted with VoIP call control from a server application.

NEC devices support the interoperability defined by the MSF R4 Architecture and the implementation agreement testing scenarios. NEC said, their devices successfully conducted interoperability testing with equipments developed by a number of companies under global standards for 3GPP, TISPAN, ITU-T and others.

MSF, a consortium of carriers, service providers, system suppliers, test device vendors and others, believes implementation agreements and interoperability testing contribute to worldwide device compatibility and standardization proposals that lead to greater development of multi-service NGN and open architecture.

Interoperability verification is a key to advancement in NGN and IMS based IPTV technologies. These tests also improve cooperative links between participating companies, NEC said.

As an active MSF board member, NEC works to drive the expansion of NGN through proactive implementation of interface rules and testing scenarios.

NEC offers customized solutions in the fields of computer, networking and electronic devices by integrating its technical strengths in IT and networks, and by providing advanced semiconductor solutions through NEC Electronics Corporation.
