Telx Selects AboveNet to Link its NY and NJ Data Centers with Dark Fiber

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Telx, a domestic interconnection and colocation data center operator, has announced that it has selected AboveNet, a fiber optic connectivity provider, to link its New York and New Jersey-based data centers with dark fiber.

The installation of equipment in one of Telx’s four New York area facilities is expected to result in low latency in connections between these locations.

In addition, it will also offer the option to connect directly to more than 500 other carrier and enterprise customers over a Telx-managed optical transport network, according to company officials.

Using diverse fiber routes with two separate Hudson River crossings, the new AboveNet dark fiber optical network connects Telx’s four New York metro area data centers. These centers are located at 111 8th Avenue, 60 Hudson Street in New York, 300 Boulevard East in Weehawken, New Jersey, with the newest facility located at 100 Delawanna Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey.

“Our customers can now extend into Telx’s colocation facilities in N.J., and source the best data center and optical networking solutions to help them optimize key IT infrastructures,” said MaryBeth Nance, executive director of business development and marketing at AboveNet.

Additionally, within the Telx suite at 100 Delawanna, AboveNet said that it has also extended its dense metro optical network. At this suite Telx is expected to establish a PoP for serving customers.

Telx believes that this enhanced capability will provide “much-needed” business continuity, disaster recovery and storage options for its New York based customers.

Mike Terlizzi, executive vice president of engineering and operations at Telx, said that the physical path diversity was a critical design element of the network to ensure reliability for customers, especially those working in top-tier financial services where there is zero tolerance for network interruption.

“The dark fiber and optical transport offers the lowest possible latency for customers connecting to financial institutions’ networks that are colocated in Telx facilities, such as Gargoyle Strategic Investment and ACTIV Financial,” said Terlizzi.

Last month, AboveNet expanded its Metro Ethernet portfolio with the addition of any-to-any and hub and spoke networking configurations.
