Global Capacity Eyes Burgeoning Healthcare Sector
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor
Global Capacity, a telecommunications information management and logistics company, reportedly is placing a special focus on the healthcare sector in 2009.
Company officials said that the healthcare vertical market, which represents more than 15 percent of Global Capacity’s revenues today, has gained momentum over the last few months specifically through their so-called “Strategic Sourcing” solutions.
Under current estimates, U.S. healthcare spending is around 15.2 percent of the gross domestic product, and experts expect that share of GDP to continue an upward trend, reaching 19.5 percent by 2017.
According to a study done by Insight Research Corporation, within this share the U.S. healthcare industry is targeted to spend $55 billion on telecommunications solutions over the next five years.
Spending by the U.S. healthcare industry on these solutions will grow at a compounded rate of 8.4 percent over the forecast period, increasing from $7.5 billion in 2008 to $11.3 billion in 2013, the study points out.
“Healthcare Enterprises are looking for partners that can help build private networks that conform to the strict HIPAA compliance requirements while remaining cost efficient,” said Patrick Shutt, chief executive officer at Global Capacity.
Shutt said that the company has been building and monitoring private networks since 2001 for an elite set of Fortune 1000 clients, including healthcare clients.
He said that as part of Global Capacity’s longer-term strategy to diversify its revenue stream, it is important that the company focuses its attention on stronger vertical markets based on the effects of today’s economy and the proposed implications of President Barack Obama’s stimulus plan.
“We have proven to our current healthcare partners that we can assist them in saving money while also building the private networks they require and we will pursue additional partners in this market segment,” Shutt said.
Global Capacity earlier this month announced a three-year Software Solutions and Strategic Sourcing agreement with a provider of managed IP data, voice and security services in North America.
Total contract value is expected to exceed $9 million.
