Country Code 1 ENUM Launches ENUM Registry Service

Telcordia has been selected by County Code 1 (CC1) ENUM to build and manage a highly scalable and extensible registry service. With this, communication service providers are expected to seamlessly use technologies such as inter-carrier VoIP, multimedia, SMS, MMS and other applications.

Although converged communications is the new buzzword in the telecommunications industry, there have been many roadblocks to achieve seamless interoperability between various devices. Achieving easy to operate interconnection between devices has been the prime priority for companies working in this field.

With these new services, both domestic and international communication service providers can benefit from IP-based interconnect capabilities. As they can use telephone numbers as the primary means for subscriber identification, service providers can ensure the efficient and secure delivery of their traffic.

“The flexible, scalable architecture of Telcordia's (News - Alert) interconnection suite enables the delivery of next-generation applications and services across partner networks by providing accurate and authoritative user, provider and network information," said Richard Jacowleff, president, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia. "The CC1 ENUM understood the critical need for accurate routing of IP-based traffic and content, and proactively set in motion an interconnection solution with Telcordia.”

With the help of interconnection capability, participating operators and mobile content providers can map subscribers' phone numbers to IP gateways. This allows them to offer IP-based services across providers' networks in a secure, reliable and cost efficient way.

To access the registry service for routing IP-based traffic, participating service providers will have to pay a nominal fee. Without this service, the cost efficiencies of IP communications will be lost as the traffic would have to revert to a TDM-based network.

In May last year, the company announced it will highlight its new Vehicular Datagram Transport Layer Security (VDTLS) protocol for vehicle networks. According to Telcordia, the VDTLS protocol extends the Internet standard protocol DTLS. By integrating a recent development in asymmetric cryptography, called Identity Based Encryption (IBE), the protocol effectively addresses the unique challenges in providing secure communications in vehicle networks.
