Facebook and TMCnet Are Now Friends
By Jessica Kostek, TMCnet Channel Editor
Who isn’t on Facebook (News - Alert)? Online social networking is the next best trend considering everyone is tied in someway to the Internet and its virtual worlds. Facebook has brought, at least for me, a closer connection with friends and family in addition to giving me a way to reconnect with those who I had lost touch with.
When it started, creator Mark Zuckerberg wanted it to be a place for college students to connect and be friends with people who they might normally interact with on a daily basis. Now, Facebook is becoming a type of online “high school” where a virtual classification system is forming whether we know it or not.
In an article I found the other day, The 9 Types of Facebook Friends, author Peter Hartlaub said that he joined Facebook hoping to “reconnect with old friends, network within my chosen profession and find out which people from my high school are still hot.”
The nine Hartlaub list are, The Facebook Ghost, Extreme Makeover, Facebook Edition, The Facebook Snob, The TMI, The Friend Addict, The "Hey, remember me?", The Facebook Superfan, The Glory Days and The Exhibitionist.
All are fairly self explanatory and he does a good job at describing the class system that Facebook, or its virtual society, is developing. Since Facebook is such a major factor in the lives of some people—which I’m going to assume those people fit the Friend Addict or the Facebook Superfan category—TMCnet announced today that those who log onto the Website will be able to connect to their individual Facebook accounts through a button bar that has been added to the top left navigation bar.
“Adding advantages for Facebook users to create an enhanced social interaction experience on TMCnet is another example of how we strive to incorporate new technologies, streamline applications and create user-friendly experiences to offer the ultimate one-stop shop for everything in communications and technology,” said Rich Tehrani, TMC (News - Alert) president, group publisher and editor-in-chief.
Benefits in development include:
- Access to premium content;
- Automated sign-in for TMCnet blog comments;
- Automated Facebook photo included with blog comments;
- Seamless connection to TMCnet applications for iPhone and MobileTMCnet;
- Automated access to free resources including white papers, webinars, podcasts;
- Simplified process means elimination of multiple log-in names and passwords;
- Automatically post one-line stories back to Facebook.
“Our visitors will be able to find and connect with news, trends and opinions unlike any other comparative industry site,” he continued. “Our constant growth in enhancing TMCnet features is why 2 million to 3 million readers continue to support TMCnet every month. Look for the Facebook button and sign up for your simplified and customized experience on TMCnet.”
So connect TMCnet to your Facebook and let the Facebook network you are not only Facebook savvy but get all of your technical information from the world’s largest communication and technology community. You can even share this story!
