Campaign Launched for Rural America to Demonstrate its Demands for Broadband Internet

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

A new Website campaign dubbed “We Need Broadband” has been launched for residents and businesses in rural America to demonstrate their demand for broadband Internet to the federal government. The Website is being operated by RidgeviewTel.

RidgeviewTel is a full-service broadband communications company based in Longmont, Colorado, that provides affordable, high-speed, wireless Internet services to communities under-served by traditional telecom and cable providers.

The recently passed 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allotted $7.2 billion in grant dollars to promote broadband service to rural areas, which in turn will provide rural communities with access to worldwide markets and the education, first responder, and health care resources they need to prosper and compete.

Residents and businesses in rural communities can use this Website campaign to let the service providers know their demand for a broadband access. The WeNeedBroadband.com site states that the requests furnished by visitors will be added to information from others to help define the network needs of their area. Only a name and address is required to map a potential subscriber's location. If more locations are mapped in a community than larger telecommunications companies vying for those grant dollars will look to deploy their internet services in that community.

"Everyone deserves access to broadband Internet service and the opportunities it provides, so we developed and launched the We Need Broadband project to accelerate network deployments to under-served communities," said Vince Jordan, CEO of RidgeviewTel, which operates the site, in a statement. Jordon also invited people residing in the broadband underserved areas to input their location details into the Website and gather other residents in their community to do the same.

RidgeviewTel has deployed 54 broadband networks to underserved communities in three states since 2004.

According to RidgeviewTel, while the Website's content and design are very basic to make it accessible over a dial-up Internet connection, the mapping capability and database integration is powered by the company's sophisticated dBOSS software platform, which is what makes WeNeedBroadband Website unique.
