Motorola (News - Alert) unveiled new features for its MOTOTRBO digital two-way radio system and launched the CP185, its newest Commercial Portable Two-Way Radio at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE).

Launched in 2007, MOTOTRBO is designed for organizations that require customizable communications. MOTOTRBO is a two-way radio system that combines GPS, pager and text messaging capabilities. With the capacity to run in analog or digital modes, and by using TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) technology, the TRBO platform provides double the capacity on repeater channels.

The new expanded MOTOTRBO comes with improved voice and data communications with Capacity Plus. Capacity Plus is a single-site trunking solution that provides access for up to eight voice channels and availability of adding additional channels for data communications on a MOTOTRBO system. Unlike some trunking solutions, Capacity Plus does not require the use of a controller in order to operate, which means lower equipment costs for users.

Capacity Plus is also supports the Repeater Diagnostics and Control application that allows users to monitor and manage their system remotely.

"Capacity Plus expands the capacity of both voice and data communications, which helps to increase business productivity without the cost of acquiring additional channels," said Paul Cizek, Motorola director of North America Professional/Commercial Radios.

"This is the ideal solution for users whose business operates at a single site with a large number of users needing voice and data communication."

Another feature announced for MOTOTRBO is the global addition of the IP Site Connect feature, which enables users to link up to 15 repeaters via an IP connection and share voice and data communication.

"Whether it's extending communication between multiple locations, creating continuous wide area coverage or enhancing single site coverage, IP Site Connect enables users to link repeaters together to extend the voice and data communication reach of their workforce anywhere in the world," said Cizek .

Apart from this, the newly announced CP185 commercial radio is stated to offer users a new two-way radio solution with an extensive feature set that is ergonomically designed to help organizations with improved efficiency and productivity. The CP185 is currently shipping in a UHF model, and a VHF model is stated be available later this month.

"The most urgent requirement of any two-way radio user is instant voice communications. Providing important functionality such as clear audio, plus enhanced features such as hands-free communications will further help business users drive efficiency," said Cizek.

The new radio comes with built-in simple voice scrambling for increased privacy; VOX ready for hands-free communication; Programmable buttons enabling one-touch access to features; Multi-channel capability; X-Pand Technology and tight specifications to enhance the rejection of interference resulting in crisp, clear audio; and long lasting battery life - standard Li-Ion battery solution offering up to 11 hours of battery life at high power operation.
