Newport Beach, Calif.-based Child Protect LLC, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation, recently announced that it has entered into a license agreement with South Korea-based LG Electronics, a provider of consumer electronics, home appliances, and mobile communications.
Acacia Research’s (News - Alert) subsidiaries develop, acquire, license and enforce patented technologies. They control more than 100 patent portfolios that include U.S. patents as well as other foreign counterparts. The company’s subsidiaries help patent holders protect their patented inventions from unauthorized use. The company generates revenue from licensing. Acacia Research said that by signing a typical client agreement, the company generally becomes the owner or exclusive licensee of a patent portfolio - with rights to enforce and take responsibility for licensing and enforcement at company’s expense. The client can receive a percentage of company’s net recoveries from licensing and enforcement. Under the terms of this agreement, the licensed technologies covers a portfolio of patents that applies to controlling incoming and/or outgoing calls from a telephone. According to both the companies, this agreement resolves the parties’ dispute that was pending in the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey. According to Acacia Research, its subsidiaries cover technologies which include audio/video enhancement and synchronization, broadcast data retrieval, computer memory cache coherency, credit card fraud protection, database management, data encryption and product activation, digital media transmission (DMT (News - Alert)), digital video production, dynamic manufacturing modeling, enhanced Internet navigation, image resolution enhancement, interactive data sharing, interactive television, laptop docking station connectivity, microprocessor enhancement, multi-dimensional bar codes, resource scheduling, spreadsheet automation and user activated Internet advertising. Recently, Acacia Research’s subsidiary, Light Valve Solutions LLC, entered into a settlement and license agreements with Canon and NEC (News - Alert) Display Solutions. Both the agreements covered a patent portfolio that relates to light valve systems and resolves patent litigation that was pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, said the company. Diagnostic Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation, also entered into a license agreement with NetIQ (News - Alert) Corporation recently covering a portfolio of patents that apply to rule-based monitoring, said the company.
