Verizon Enhances its VISS Online Protection Service

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Verizon Communications has reportedly added Wi-Fi security and advanced protection features to its Verizon (News - Alert) Internet Security Suite (VISS).

These new capabilities are offered at no additional charge and reinforce the value of the popular and award-winning VISS service. The company is currently offering this service to Verizon FiOS (News - Alert) Internet and Verizon High Speed Internet customers, as well as other broadband users.

Subscribers using the new Wi-Fi Security feature get peace of mind since they know they are completely protected from hackers, eavesdroppers and other security threats associated with unsecured wireless networks and hot spots.

The service will display an alert if users are unknowingly connecting to a wireless network and will also provide simple how-to instructions to encourage users to set up encryption. Subscribers are also protected while using public hot spots, since Wi-Fi security automatically turns off network discovery and sharing for increased security.

The new Advance Protection feature monitors a computer's behavior and defends users against malicious programs. The service continuously searches for malware and monitor suspicious activities on the computer. Once the harmful items have been identified these are removed by the solutions’ deep-cleaning capabilities.

VISS was recently recognized by Info Security Products Guide as one of the best products for Internet security worldwide.

Bill Heilig, vice president of Verizon Broadband Solutions emphasized the importance of providing most up-to-date security software to their broadband subscribers in the light of continuous evolution and change of computer threats.

Realizing this need their company has added Wi-Fi Security and Advance Protection to VISS. These additions will help ensure that their subscribers have the best and most secure home-computing experience possible.

According to company’s sources, the new subscribers to VISS will receive the additional Wi-Fi Security and Advance Protection services immediately. The existing VISS subscribers will be able to automatically upgrade on May 7. The subscribers can download the feature immediately by visiting the site and clicking on "Manage My Broadband Essentials & Extras" under the "Billing" category.
