Icomera Debuts Moovbox M200R Mobile Broadband Gateway for Demanding Transport Applications
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Icomera has unveiled the Moovbox M200R mobile broadband gateway designed as a rugged industrial cellular router and Wi-Fi access point.
Icomera is a provider of cellular broadband gateways delivering Internet connectivity for passenger transport, public safety and enterprise applications.
According to the company, the solution is a multi-radio, in-vehicle communications device that delivers Ethernet, Wi-Fi and GPS over a range of carrier-class backhaul networks.
The Moovbox M200R works wherever there is cellular data coverage and supports plug-and-play operation with WAN technologies including 3G UMTS/HSPA, EDGE, EV-DO Rev A, TD-CDMA, HC-SDMA, FLASH-OFDM and mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) 802.16e.
It can be deployed for Internet services on passenger transport or for secure VPN connectivity for public safety vehicles as it is designed specially for demanding transport applications. The device can be installed in trains, coaches, buses and ferries around the world and offers the easiest way to provide connectivity wherever it’s needed.
The Moovbox M200R gateway features a commercial grade Wi-Fi access point supporting multiple SSIDs, captive portal, and RADIUS AAA making it suitable for delivering Internet access to passengers as well as secure access for transport staff. Dual 10/100 Ethernet ports provide connectivity for peripheral equipment such as IP-CCTV, digital video recorders (DVR), ticketing, voice announcement and black-box system.
It is also capable of offering an always-on high-speed connection to the vehicle throughout a journey by choosing the best carrier network over which to route traffic, using WiMAX in the urban core and switching to 3G/HSPA in suburban areas.
Michael Sigvardsson, chief executive officer at Icomera, said their M200R offers real market opportunities for rugged mobile cellular routers. In the United States alone there are over 650,000 road-based public transport and emergency vehicles, and a further 19,000 passenger trains and 26,000 freight locomotives. It is becoming more important to provide connectivity to these vehicles whether for passengers to send emails or for getting immediate emergency responses in mission critical conditions.
Icomera with its Moovbox family of fixed and mobile broadband gateways intends to deliver world-class industrial-grade communication systems for a wide range of road and rail applications and building significant market share as a result.
