Motorola's WiMAX 3.5GHz Access Point Gets WiMAX Forum Certification

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Motorola (News - Alert), Inc. has announced it earned WiMAX Forum certification for its WiMAX access point, the WAP 400 for 3.5GHz.

The WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) defines and conducts conformance and interoperability testing to ensure that different vendor systems work seamlessly with one another. Those that pass conformance and interoperability testing receive the “WiMAX Forum Certified” designation.

WiMAX Forum Certified products are based upon a single global standard (802.16) enabling complete interoperability worldwide and are identified as being the most competitive products at delivering broadband services on a wide scale.

WAP 400 access point series is part of Motorola's WiMAX Flexible Access Point infrastructure portfolio which is deployed in 3.5GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.3GHz bands. It is built on the IEEE (News - Alert) 802.16e-2005 technology standard that uses spectrally efficient S-OFDMA, low latency performance, and IP-based architecture.

Its point series provides non-line-of-sight (NLOS), fixed and mobile wireless broadband connections with MIMO antenna capabilities. This helps in strong indoor penetration as well as support for cellular-like mobility applications. Additionally, QoS capabilities, security features, and redundancy options make the WAP 400 platform a true carrier-class solution, according to the company.

"Motorola continues its support of the WiMAX Forum and leadership in WiMAX -- not only in network deployments and our device portfolio -- but also by our growing number of WiMAX Forum Certified products that further enhance the WiMAX ecosystem," said Darren McQueen, vice president, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility.

Motorola also announced its plans to release three new wireless communications modules aimed at allowing device manufacturers to have increased options for integrated wireless communications.
