DG FastChannel Announces a New Content Delivery Platform

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

DG FastChannel has announced the deployment of its next generation content delivery platform for syndicated and news programming. With this, the entertainment industry is expected to get its first true high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) store and forward solution for long-form programming and news.

DG FastChannel provides digital network services to more than 4,100 television broadcast and cable destinations via the Web or satellite distribution. Offering high level of quality, accountability and flexibility to both advertisers and broadcasters, this network enables the rapid, cost-effective and reliable electronic transmission of TV, radio, print and Internet spots.

Experts believe that HD DMG hardware will allow the radio stations to flip content to internal assets without the use of additional and costly transcoding. This new announcement from DG FastChannel will benefit syndication and news content owners as they get a comprehensive full-service offering including content preparation, ingestion and store and forward delivery.

“DG FastChannel remains committed to being the leading solution for content management and delivery,” stated Scott Ginsburg, Chairman and CEO of DG FastChannel. “Our HD DMG has distinct advantages for broadcast stations including industry first integrated transcoding capabilities, significant increase in storage and processing, and ability to handle both MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 compression. There is no other solution in the marketplace that compares for syndicated and news content.”

DG FastChannel has announced that the deployment of the HD DMG network has begun and will continue over the next several quarters. It provides features such as increased storage of up to 3 Terabytes, better processing with dual quad core CPUs, prioritized content delivery, and MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 H.264 support.

In October last year, the company selected Cerona Networks Corporation to provide its industry leading XpressVu DVB-S2 Satellite Receiver for high-speed IP transmissions in support of DG FastChannel's SpotBox network. Cerona's XpressVu met all of DG FastChannel's objectives and it will allow DG FastChannel to receive simultaneous transmissions from two separate transponders.
