TANDBERG Employees Save Two Metric Tons of Carbon Emissions in Just One Day

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

TANDBERG has announced that about half of its Virginia-based employees, by observing Virginia's "Statewide Telework Day," have managed to save two metric tons of carbon emissions and showed 100 hours of increased productivity by not sitting in traffic.

TANDBERG is a global provider of telepresence, high-definition video conferencing and mobile video products and services with dual headquarters in New York and Norway.

In a release, TANDBERG officials explained that as a videoconferencing and telepresence provider they know first-hand how a telework program enhanced by visual communications can help agencies and enterprises realize positive environmental benefits while maintaining the in-person experience typical of an office environment and they have also long requested their employees to telework.

TANDBERG adds that it is proud to support Virginia’s Statewide Telework Day that encourages the usage of green IT such as video conferencing as an important tool to support corporate sustainability efforts like travel reduction and telework.

In his proclamation of Statewide Telework Day, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine had noted that every day people make choices that result in impacts to the environment. There are many opportunities to reduce these impacts. For instance conducting video conferences or conference calls rather than face-to-face meetings and by walking, bicycling, carpooling, or taking transit to work can greatly reduce automobile emissions.

TANDBERG has stated that it had provided employees with video conferencing systems in the office, their homes and on their laptops thereby enabling them to have face-to-face meetings with colleagues, customers or partners from wherever they work, from the road or from home.

Researches have also indicated that face-to-face meetings via videoconferencing eliminate the confusions that usually arise from audio calls or emails since user can see people’s face at the other end and immediately see what they are thinking.

TANDBERG has stated that its telework program is very advantageous to the company. By replacing business travels with in-person video calls it was able to save 21,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, over $45 million, and about 38,250 productivity hours in the last year.

TANDBERG also has a program that makes its employees telework one day a week that has reduced the company’s overall environmental impact from commuting by 20 percent.

TANDBERG and BT (News - Alert) recently inked a deal for telepresence and video conferencing. In addition TANDBERG recently gained JITC Certification from federal government.
