By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor
Extreme Networks, supplier of converged Ethernet networks, recently announced that it would be acquiring the software assets of Soapstone Networks (News - Alert). Soapstone Networks is primarily focused on providing a launch pad for provisioning and service assurance for enterprise grade Ethernet networks, according to the company.
With this acquisition deal the software control planes and the service aware provisioning systems of Soapstone Network will be transferred to Extreme Network. This transfer would allow Extreme Networks (News - Alert) to iron out inherent complications in the service provider’s task of allocating and maintaining Ethernet services to their end users.
According to Glenn Weinberg, vice president and general manager at Extreme Network’s Software Business Unit, “The addition of the software assets from Soapstone Networks into the Extreme Networks intellectual property portfolio continues our commitment to carrier Ethernet.
The unique provisioning and service aware capabilities of the Soapstone Networks software will enable Extreme Networks to deliver a more complete, extensible solution to carrier Ethernet service providers."
Once all the finer details of the acquisition deal is finalized the newly transferred software from Soapstone Networks will be incorporated into the Extreme Networks EPICenter Network Management System. This incorporation will lead to a multi faceted service level perception of the provisioning and management of enterprise grade Ethernet networks and protocols which span such far reaching capabilities such as Provider Bridging, Provider Backbone Bridging, Provider Backbone Bridging with Traffic Engineering, Ethernet Access Protection Switching and Virtual Private Line.
As mentioned earlier, Extreme Networks supplies converged Ethernet networks which works well with and carries data, voice and video for enterprises and service providers. The network solutions from the stables of Extreme Networks are known for their high grade performance e and high availability with very low lead time needed for completing deliveries. These unique functionalities in turn provide a better insight into and also monitor wired consumers to resolve any of their business communications challenges.
Currently Extreme Networks has worked with more than 50 countries and also supplies both wired and woreless secure LAN, data center infrastructure and Service Provider Ethernet transport applications that are further enhanced by a global, 24x7 service and support.
